1. Do Foreign Children Born in Vietnam Need a Visa?

2. What Type of Visa Will the Child Be Granted?
Since the child has relatives in Vietnam, they will typically be issued a visitor visa. The two most common types of visas are:
TT Visa (Family Visit Visa):
This visa is issued when the child has parents who are either foreign nationals holding visas such as LD1, LD2, DT1, DT2, or DT3, or has one parent who is Vietnamese. The TT visa is valid for up to 1 year and can be converted into a temporary residence card valid for up to 3 years.
VR Visa (Personal Visit Visa):
This visa is usually issued to children whose parents are foreign nationals holding a DT4 visa. The VR visa is suitable for families with specific needs while staying in Vietnam.
3. Requirements for Applying for a Visa for Foreign Children Born in Vietnam
To apply for a visa, the following documents are typically required:
Birth certificate issued by the hospital where the child was born. A notarized copy is needed for the application; the original may be needed when applying for a passport.
Child’s birth certificate and passport: The birth certificate must be legalized and translated into Vietnamese. If a birth certificate is unavailable, an official note (diplomatic note) from the embassy or consulate may be used instead
